The Challenge

You cannot manage what you do not measure.

Most organisations know they need to act on climate, but they have no idea where to start. Spreadsheets are messy, utility bills sit in different departments, fleet data is incomplete, and supply chain emissions feel impossible to quantify. Without a clear, accurate baseline, your sustainability strategy is little more than guesswork.

The consequences of poor data are real. Organisations that rely on rough estimates or outdated figures consistently miss opportunities to cut energy spend, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency. Worse, they risk non-compliance with emerging regulations such as SECR and ESOS.

Did you know? Organisations that complete a thorough carbon footprint typically identify energy and procurement inefficiencies worth 10-40% of their current spend. The footprint pays for itself many times over.

Our Approach

Turn complex data into clear insights.

We break down your entire carbon footprint to reveal the key sources of emissions across your operations, supply chain, and value chain, giving you the clarity to act decisively.

Hotspot Analysis

We don't just give you a total number. We break your emissions down by site, department, fleet route, or procurement category so you can instantly see where the problem is—and where the quick wins are. Focus your efforts where they'll have the biggest impact, not just the easiest ones to fix.

Scope 3 Clarity

For most organisations, supply chain emissions make up 70–90% of the total footprint—and they're the hardest to pin down. We work with your procurement and finance teams to build a Scope 3 inventory that's both comprehensive and defensible, moving you from rough estimates to real data over time.

Audit-Ready Reporting

Every report we produce is aligned with the GHG Protocol—the global standard for carbon accounting. Clear enough for your board, detailed enough for your sustainability team, and ready for third-party verification, investor reporting, or tender submissions from day one.

How We Work

Four steps to a clear carbon baseline.

Our proven process takes you from scattered data to actionable insight in a matter of weeks, not months.

Data Collection

We gather utility bills, fleet records, refrigerant logs, procurement spend data, travel records, and any other relevant information. We provide a structured data request template so your teams know exactly what is needed, minimising the burden on your internal resources.

Analysis & Calculation

Using the GHG Protocol methodology and the latest DEFRA/BEIS emission factors, we calculate your Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. We apply both location-based and market-based approaches for electricity, and we use the most appropriate methodology for each Scope 3 category.

Insights & Reporting

We produce clear visualisations showing your emission hotspots, year-on-year trends, and benchmarking against sector peers. Our reports are designed for multiple audiences: concise summaries for leadership and detailed data for technical teams.

Action Planning

We do not just hand you a number and walk away. We deliver a prioritised reduction roadmap that ranks interventions by cost, feasibility, and carbon impact. From quick wins like LED lighting upgrades to strategic shifts like renewable energy procurement, we show you exactly where to focus.

Why It Matters

The benefits of knowing your numbers.

Cut Costs

A carbon footprint is essentially an energy and resource audit. We consistently find that clients can cut 10–40% of their energy spend once they can actually see where it's going.

Build Trust

Customers, investors, and regulators are getting better at spotting vague environmental claims. A verified, transparent footprint gives you the evidence to back yours up—and stand out from competitors who can't.

Future-Proof

Carbon reporting requirements are expanding fast. Getting an accurate baseline now means you're ahead of SECR, ESOS, and whatever comes next—rather than scrambling to catch up.

FAQs

Common questions about carbon footprinting.

We cover all three scopes defined by the GHG Protocol. Scope 1 includes direct emissions from owned or controlled sources such as gas boilers, company vehicles, and refrigerant leaks. Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling. Scope 3 encompasses all other indirect emissions in your value chain, including purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, waste disposal, upstream transportation, and downstream use of sold products. We assess all 15 Scope 3 categories and determine which are material to your organisation.
A typical organisational carbon footprint takes between 4 and 8 weeks from kickoff to final report delivery. The main variable is data availability. If your utility bills, fleet records, and procurement data are well-organised, we can work quickly. If significant data gathering is required, particularly for Scope 3 supplier engagement, the timeline may extend. We always provide a clear project plan with milestones at the outset, and we can accommodate urgent deadlines for tender submissions or reporting cycles.
We provide a comprehensive data request template at the start of every engagement. Typical data includes electricity and gas bills (or meter readings), fuel purchase records for company vehicles, refrigerant top-up logs, business travel bookings, employee commuting surveys, waste disposal records, and procurement spend data broken down by category. We guide you through every step and can work with whatever level of data granularity you currently have, improving accuracy over successive reporting periods.
Absolutely. We work with organisations of all sizes, from SMEs with 20 employees to large corporates with thousands of staff across multiple sites. For smaller businesses, we offer streamlined packages that focus on the most material emission sources without unnecessary complexity. Many SMEs come to us because a client or contracting authority has asked them to provide carbon data as part of a supply chain requirement, and we help them respond quickly and credibly.
Spend-based data is a recognised and widely used methodology for estimating Scope 3 emissions, particularly in the early stages of carbon footprinting. It uses economic input-output models to convert procurement spend into estimated emissions. While it is less precise than activity-based data (such as actual quantities of materials purchased), it provides a credible starting point that is accepted by the GHG Protocol, SBTi, and most reporting frameworks. We always flag where spend-based estimates are used and recommend a data improvement plan to progressively replace estimates with primary data over time.
